Objectives

Trauma is one of the transversal areas of medical knowledge, every emergency care doctor must be involved in the subject.

For the assessment and management of trauma patients is necessary triage, resuscitation and stabilization according to priorities.

Determine patient’s needs and prepare for definitive care.

This course unit aims to raise awareness among doctors for this severe problem and the positive impact of a better care on morbidity and mortality.

Teaching method

The CU takes place over two weeks (34th and 35th week - academic year) being organized in seminars, clinical case discussion, clinical practice in affiliated units, participation (as Observer) in ATLS course (Advanced Trauma Life Support).

Evaluation method

The evaluation is made by a final written test/exam.

Subject matter

Seminars, clinical demonstrations, discussion of clinical cases and clinical activities in affiliated units:  Neurocritical intensive care unit; Spine and spinal cord care unit; Neurosurgical care unit; General emergency department.

 Participation (as Observer) in ATLS course (Advanced Trauma Life Support).
