General
Established in 1977, NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH) is an interdisciplinary school with teaching and research purposes, where diversity and creativity of knowledge prevail.Located near Lisbon city centre, it hosts a total of 4.933 students, 2.612 in undergraduate programmes, 1.694 in masters and 627 in PhD programmes. It has 310 professors, almost all holding a PhD degree (RAIDES2018).
NOVA FCSH offers 14 undergraduate programmes, in which students can benefit from mobility initiatives involving today 312 participants. In graduate training, NOVA FCSH offers 13 postgraduate programmes, 43 master degrees and 25 PhD degrees.
NOVA FCSH is nowadays the largest and most diverse research institution in the area of Social Sciences and Humanities in Portugal. The excellence of research in Social Sciences and Humanities, one of the missions of NOVA FCSH, is assured by 16 Research Units, some part of interuniversity centres.
Currently, the growing academic community at NOVA FCSH has researchers who are integrated (or associated) in a Research Unit, as well as other collaborators, students and research grantholders.
Mobility students
International and National MobilityThe School of Social Sciences and Humanities has made considerable efforts on internationalization and receives an increasing number of students and teachers from internationally acknowledged universities every year. The School has established a wide network of partnerships to this effect. The University participates in several European programmes, namely Erasmus+, Erasmus-Mundus and Santander Universities Scholarships.
NOVA FCSH hosts several partnerships with international higher education institutions for the mobility of students, by means of bilateral agreements.
The Almeida Garrett programme provides a national framework for the mobility of students in Portugal, aiming to reinforce the quality and dimension of the national higher education system.
This program allows students to attend a partner Portuguese university, in a given period of mobility, assuring full academic recognition.
Outgoing students can apply to universities offering positions for students, in accordance with the regulations. More information is available at the Schools Intranet.
For incoming students, in order to the mobility take place, partner Universities need to nominate their students and should send all necessary documentation, properly completed, signed and stamped.
After arriving at NOVA FCSH, the mobility student should go to NEIMA-International Students & Exchange Office 1st Floor of Tower B (Ticket International/Erasmus), in order to receive all necessary information regarding administrative procedures.

Admission and enrollment
BachelorStudents are admitted to NOVA FCSH, through the National Access Competition for Higher Education, and register at the Academic Services - Undergraduate Section, within the period set by ministerial dispatch. In addition to the payment of the first instalment of tuition fees, administrative costs and educational insurance, the following documents are also required:

Libraries
Mário Sottomayor Cardia LibraryThe library was named after Professor Mário Sottomayor Cardia in 2008, following the donation of his private book collection, made by the family to the Faculty. The library holds a colletion with about 150 thousand titles, availabe to teachers, researchers, students and workers of NOVA FCSH, as well as any interested reader. Most of the collection consists of monographs and half of these were donated by faculty members and researchers, namely José Rodrigues Migueis, Leonor Buescu or Mário Sottomayor Cardia. The remaining collection holds about 4,000 magazines and approximately 4,000 non-book material.
The BMSC also provides the academic community with access to ebooks, scientific databases and national and international digital repositories of reference, while ensuring the user support and training to access these various eletronic platforms.
Vitorino Magalhães Godinho Library
The BVMG is a specialized library, dedicated to researchers and to scientific research. It has been designated since 2018, following the donation of the library of Professor Vitorino Magalhães Godinho, made by the family to the Faculty.In addition to this private library, this library provides access to the book collection of 14 NOVA FCSH Research Units focusing on areas like Anthropology, Gender Studies, Philosophy, Literature, Music, History and Sociology, as well as the Samuel Schwarz Library, a collection with unique characteristics that mainly concerns the history, culture and religion of the Jewish people.
Mapoteca
The Mapoteca of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities has, for several decades, a remarkable collection of cartography (basic and thematic) produced by several Institutions, of different editions and at different scales, covering the national territory, as well as good part of the former colonial territories. These documents are fundamental in Teaching and Research in several scientific areas of FCSH.

NOVA FCSHs students have a canteen that serves meals at social prices from 2.70 and access to all SASNOVA units, as well as food services belonging to all other Public Higher Education Institutions in Lisbon.In addition to the canteen, NOVA FCSH further provides:

Special needs facilities
NOVA FCSH provides access ramps to the elevators at Towers A and B, as well as accessible restrooms in all buildings and floors.At the IT Office, in building B2, the following computer equipment specially adapted to the use of blind and visually impaired students is available:
- JAWS 11.0 (screen reader);
- Openbook (character recognition software);
- Magic 11.0 (screen enlargement software);
- Winbraille and Braille Índex Everest printer (software and printer for braille printing).
Students that wish to require specific support or conditions during their academic course due to special needs should request the Special Needs Statute. For this purpose, students must fill out the form available on NOVA FCSHs Intranet, annexing the respective medical report, after the enrolment at NOVA FCSH.

Summer School (Escola de Verão)Coordinator: Professor Clara Nunes Correia
NOVA FCSH launches every year, from july to september, a Summer School with intensive training programmes and short-term courses in all areas of Social Sciences and Humanities. Available to the general public, from Portugal or from the rest of the world, these courses aims at providing students an introduction or in-depth topics or specific materials covering all scientific fields taught at NOVA FCSH. Students will find a great opportunity to expand and develop skills with higher education lecturers and at the same time a privileged space for dialogue and a meeting point for people from Portuguese-speaking countries, Europe and the rest of the world. Upon successful completion, each course is worth a number of ECTS credits which may be recognised as part of ongoing studies. The Summer School courses are also accredited to primary or secondary school teachers.

Innovation Centre
