Objectives

1. To use wide means of research in individual and independent investigation in History of Classical and Late Antiquity Art in general and in Portugal(HCLAA)
2. To use source criticism for the (HCLAA
3. To study the historiography of HCLAA
4. To get acquainted with the most widely studied issues of HCLAA
5. To inquire about the less studied topics of HCALAA
6. To apply writing techniques and communication skills to the study of HCLAA
7. To make use of an interdisciplinary approach in the HCALAA investigation (i.e. Classical archaeology, Classical languages)
8. To be informed of techniques applied to HCLAA (i.e. drawing, photography, virtual reconstitutions and 3 D) and Digital Humanities
9.To develop internationalization, network participation and promote leadership skills
10.To assess the interventive potential of the investigation on HCLAA in the contemporary world

Teaching method

Methodology (theoretical and practical)
Classes will develop the issues proposed in the Syllabus but preference and priority will be given to students´ own investigation topics. An adequate plan of school visits will be recommended according to the thesis in course. Graduate students are encourage to develop a regular practice of writing small articles to be presented in colloquiums or published in scholarly journals.
Oral communication skills in Portuguese and English will be promoted on the Syllabus items or individual thesis´ subjects. The writing and sharing of parts of the thesis´s chapters will be encouraged in order to develop both proficiency in writing in Portuguese and English and to support students argumentation.
