Objectives

d) Develop the ability to identify and formulate relevant research questions in this scientific area.

Teaching methods:
The course is taught through seminar classes, in which more theoretical-expository sessions alternate with sessions marked by the active participation of students through the presentation and discussion of course readings and of the topics covered in the syllabus.
Evaluation method
Assessment methods:
(i) Participation in the seminar sessions, with presentation of course readings and discussion of the topics defined in the syllabus; these activities will be the basis for the construction of a learning portfolio (70%).
(ii) Construction and presentation of a research project (30%).
Subject matter
1. Characterisation of the object of study of educational linguistics: the interfaces among linguistics, language acquisition and language teaching.
2. Implicit knowledge, language awareness and explicit knowledge in language teaching and learning.
3. Knowledge of language and the development of reading, writing and oral skills.
4. Contributions of research in linguistics towards the definition of objectives, contents and methodological strategies in the teaching of native and non-native languages.
The specific topics which will be explored in the course are defined each year in accordance with the research interests of the students.
