Bachelor in Communication Sciences
Education objectives
1) To have up to date theoretical and methodological training in the field of Communication Sciences;
2) To understand the world from a critical point of view, in particular issues related to the phenomenon of communication;
3) To develop skills required to undertake theoretical and/or practical work in the field of Communication Sciences;
4) To be familiar with the different professional realities and opportunities within the field of study of the course;
5) To be familiar with the concepts, tools and methodologies required to exercise the profession in different areas of communication, namely:
a) in journalism and the news media,
b) in cinema, television and other audiovisual media,
c) in strategic and political communication,
d) in public relations,
e) in the field of artistic and cultural production, management and programming;
6) To be able to carry out innovative and experimental projects in the field of knowledge of the course;
7) To be able to reflect on ones own personal development in relation to all academically relevant subject matters in the context of Communication Sciences.

Degree pre-requisites
Duration: 3 years/6 semesters.
Students must perform 180 credits: 120 credits based in the compulsory curricular units, 30 credits to be chosen in a set of elective optionals and 30 credits undertaken in free-elective optionals or in a minor of another scientific area. Every semester, the student may not sign up in more than 30 credits, respecting the precedence when these have been set. At the beginning of each semester, students will be advised of the curricular units to carry out in order to appropriate them to their academic career.
The undergraduate students can still benefit from the different mobility programmes in which FCSH/NOVA participates as Erasmus +, Almeida Garrett exchange programmes, among others, and participate in research within the research units of the Faculty.
The degree of licenciado corresponds to the level 6 of the NQF and EQF-National Qualifications Framework/European Qualifications Framework.
Conditions of admittance
Students may be admitted to Higher Education through the National Competition for Access to Higher Education, special competitions/regimes and entry systems, re-enrolment systems, course changes and transfers. Evaluation rules
Students at FCSH/NOVA are evaluated based on the work developed over a semester, based on class participation, presentation of written and oral tests and examinations. The result obtained either by continuous assessment or evaluation of the tests is expressed on a scale of 0 to 20. To be approved, students must have at least 10 points to pass, however, who fail have a second chance to repeat the exams. Repeat exam: Has access any student of 1st or 2nd cycle who has obtained the minimum grade of eight values per rounding in the final grade of the curricular unit.
