Introduction to Traditional Literature

Objectives

a) To critically reflect about the concepts of tradition and traditional literature;
b) To set into perspective the diversity and specificity of the traditional poetic and narrative genres;
c) To critically analyse traditional novella, songbook and pan-hispanic ballads, in light of history, genre form and thematic.

Teaching method

Classes will have a theoretical-practical character, aiming at an active participation of the students, who will contribute with the presentation of short papers, always followed by a discussion. The professor will present the conclusions at the end of each session. In other theoretical moments the professor will present the various items and periodically systematize the acquired knowledge.

Evaluation method

Evaluation will pay special attention to the short works presented in classes, as well as to the participation of students in discussions (20%). The students will also have two written tests, in presence, with consultation, corresponding each of them to 40%.
