Socio-Anthropological Theories - 2nd semester
Objectives
The students acquire notions about several classical authors of the Social Sciences and their theories through which they are encouraged to discuss the conditions of emergence, reproduction, reinterpretation and transformation of theory in the Social Sciences and the diverse perspectives in the study of society. Students are encouraged to question common sense perspectives encouraging the students to understand the relevance of the reflection and debate of ideas in the acquisition of knowledge. The articulation with other UCs of the sylabus makes obvious the connections with the remainder of the course.

Teaching method
The classes consis of the presentation by the lecturer of the authors and their work. The reading suggestions are the basis for the debate. Critical spirit and debate are encouraged. In quantitative terms about 50% of the classes are expositive.
Evaluation method
The students debate the texts in the class corresponding to 20% of the evaluation which is completed with 2 tests (40% each).
Subject matter
The CU Socioanthropological Theories is thought as a theorectical foundation course in Social Sciences. Seminal authors such as Marx & Engels, Durkheim and Weber constitute the departing point to address themes raised by other aythors such as Bourdieu, Foucault and Goffman.
