Objectives

To attain level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Independent User)
a) Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical
discussions in his/her field of specialisation
b) Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers
quite possible without strain for either party.
c) Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options

Teaching method

Communicative methods which seek to stimulate interaction and promote increasingly autonomous learning
through an intercultural approach. Tasks set require both linguistic and extralinguistic
competences. Use of audiovisual means and information technologies.

Evaluation method

1 written assignment (20%), 1 oral assignment (20%), 1 exam (40%), spoken interaction in class + portfolio
(20%)
Attendance: minimum of 2/3 attendance of classes given

Subject matter

Training of listening comprehension skills through audiovisual materials (noninteractive situations) as well as through interactive situations in the classroom.
Reading of complex texts with appropriate strategies
Development of speaking skills through discussions and presentations; argumentation and defence of own point of view.
Composing of texts and formal letters.
Training of skills that focus on cultural issues of countries where German is the official language as well as on Interculturalism.
