French A1 - 1st semester
Objectives
The students should attain level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (Beginer user).
They should be able to :
1 understand overall short and simple authentic oral documents, recognizing familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases .
2 understand overall short and simple authentic written texts (notices, flyers, or posters), recognizing familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases .
3 produce short and simple oral sentences, as well as to interact orally (familiar matters),
4 write coherent and simple texts (write a postcard, fill in a form),
5 develop linguistic, discourse and sociocultural skills necessary to achieve different communicative tasks (level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference).
6 acquire knowledge about Francophone cultures for a awareness of interculturality

Teaching method
Communicative method seeking to stimulate interaction and engender increasingly autonomous learning.
Intercultural approach which raises the students awareness of cultural diversity carrying out tasks which draw on linguistic and extra-linguistic competences.

Formative and continuous assessment : 2 written tests (60%) + 1 oral test (20%) + active participation (10%) + homeworks (10%)
Minimum attendance: 70% of classes (except workers-students)
Subject matter
The course resolves around various topics and presents :
1. Listening and reading activities from authentic documents
2. Written and oral interaction activities : dialogs and simulation of authentic oral/written communication situations.
3. Speaking and writing activities : production of various types of simple and short texts (descriptive, narrative and dialogical texts).
4 Various activities for the acquisition of grammar and vocabulary necessary to achieve different communicative tasks (level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference)
