Specialised Journalism II - 2nd semester

Objectives

In this course, students will be introduced to two different areas of journalism, mainly Political and Business Journalism. The two modules of this course will be taught by two different teachers, both professional journalists in their area of expertise.
In this course, it is expected that students:
1) understand the main characteristics of the journalistic beats to be studied;
2) can identify the main challenges of these journalism beats;
3) will be able to produce high quality journalistic texts in both these areas.

Teaching method

Classes include theoretical lectures, practical analysis of case-studies and collective discussion on Political and Business Journalism. The course will combine theoretical exposition with collective discussion of journalistic texts produced by students.

Evaluation method

Evaluation will result from two elements:
Two final essays (one Political, one Business) related with the course contents (50% each)

Subject matter

The syllabus of this course will cover: a) the history of Political and Business Journalism; b) the present situation and significance of Political and Business Journalism; c) the main characteristics of both areas of journalism; d) the most frequent types of text in both areas; e) the production of journalistic texts in both areas
