Migration Spaces: from Local Integration to Migratory Archipelago - 1st semester
Objectives
a) Ability to discuss fundamental concepts related to the global geography of migration, the movement of migrants and their organization; b) Ability to formulate research proposals on multi-ethnic cities; c) Ability to advise political and administrative bodies in policymaking regarding intervention; d) Understand the situation and the dynamics of Portugal´s position in the global migration framework

Teaching method
Lectures introducing the major topics of the course, and presentation and discussion of selected readings by the students. A study visit to Mouraria and Martim Moniz, the most multicultural area in Lisbon
Evaluation method
Evaluation method: 1. Term paper (65%), either a review article or an empirical study. Papers are presented and discussed during the last sessions of the curricular unit; 2. Written essay about an article on lectured topics (20%); 3. Attendance, participation and presentations in class (15%).
