Objectives

1. Acquire an overview of the theoretical corpus of Psychology of Music and Music Pedagogy and their possible fields of work.
2. Develop skills of critical analysis towards Psychology of Music and Music Pedagogy.
3. Apply knowledge of the scientific research methodology in the analysis of the scientific literature.
4. Develop research skills, emphasizing the ability to collect and select information.
5. Identify and formulate original problems in the Psychology of Music and Music Pedagogy domains.
6. Acquire skills in design and writing of scientific articles and research projects

Teaching method

The teaching methodology will combine theory classes, designed to transmit knowledge, with practical classes. In preparation, students are required to read texts and view documentaries, as well as use group-based methods to encourage active partipation of all involved.

Evaluation method

Evaluation will be based on the submission of two written texts: 1) A document composed of a critical summary of each of the classes and 2) An annotated literature review covering a theme selected at the beginning of the semester.

A)Psychology of Music and Music Pedagogy: definition of fieldwork and research questions. Historical elements.
B)Curriculum, observation and evaluation of musical behavior. Introduction to the study of qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
C)Critical analysis of contributions in the fields of Psychology of Music and Music Pedagogy:
-The work of E. Gordon as an example of studies for the evaluation and measurement in Psychology of Music with repercussions for Music Pedagogy.
-Studies in the acquisition of musical competence
-Studies in the performance of musical and artistic excellence: social and psychological variables.
-Works on musical development of musical. Application to studies about artistic performances for children.
-Musical development and other variables of psychological development.
D)Sources of bibliographic research and literature review of research topics. Application of guidelines and standards for writing papers and research projects
