PhD in Translation Studies
Education objectives
The PhD students will be trained in the research specific to Translation Studies:research in libraries, catalogues, bibliographies and in the web,corpus or corpora design, definition of the problem to study in articulation with the state of the art in research, choice of the most adequate methodology for a specific object, familiarity with the adequate contexts and command of the analysis procedures. Competences to be developed:
a) To acquire conceptual and methodological tools in the specific areas of Translation Studies,
enabling students to frame, understand and analyse the phenomenon of translation;
b) To acquire the critical use of the theoretical and methodological apparatus;
c) To conceive and structure a research project in Translation Studies;
d) To conduct autonomous research specific to the field of Translation Studies;
e) To communicate the results of the research undertaken and to discuss issues within the specific field of Translation Studies with the scientific community.

Conditions of admittance
Edition 2019/2020 will be held in NOVA FCSH. The PhD in Translation Studies targets applicants from all over the world who master oral and written Portuguese, hold a Master´s or a BA (required a minimum grade of 16 in 20) Degree, and are interested in becoming qualified professionals in the field in the wider context of inter-lingual and intercultural communication studies. As the Program includes senior researchers with a wide variety of interests and backgrounds, it is possible (and desirable) to host and develop research projects in multiple areas of Translation Studies. Creativity and diversity are most welcome.
