Masters in Urban Studies
Education objectives
Joint master degree programme between NOVA FCSH and ISCTE-IUL.
In this course, it is intended that students will acquire the following self-reflective and operational capacities:
- The ability to interpret and utilize concepts and methods of analysis regarding new dynamics of urban and socioeconomic change, and discuss the complexity of contemporary urban territories;
- The ability to construct original research projects and create and apply various tools for intervening in urban contexts;
- The ability to communicate information, perspectives, problems and solutions to specialists as well as the variety of other actors involved in these processes;
- The ability to design and execute diagnoses, planes and projects that are scientifically informed and based in a multidisciplinary perspective;
- The ability to process technical and scientific knowledge in the area of Urban Studies critically, enabling their pursuit of doctoral studies and continued education throughout life.

Degree pre-requisites
Duration: 2 years/4 semesters
Total credits: 120 ECTS, distributed among 36 in compulsory curricular units and 36 optional (6 in free-elective optionals, 24 specific and 6 TEP) and 48 in the dissertation or project work.
The degree of mestre corresponds to the level 7 of the NQF and EQF-National Qualifications Framework/European Qualifications Framework.

Evaluation rules
A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the post-graduate diploma. The final grade of the post-graduate diploma is the average, by credit, of the grades obtained in the course units in which the student obtained the 60 credits from the taught part of the Masters course. A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the Masters degree. The final grade of the Masters degree will be the average of the final grade of the taught part of the course, weighted to 40%, and the grade awarded to the dissertation or project work, weighted to 60%.
