Building Materials I

Objectives

The subject of Construction Materials assumes a fundamental importance in the training of  the students, as it provides the bases that will allow them to obtain an adequate performance in the other subjects of the "Construction" group. But in addition to that fact, the subject also teaches terminal knowledge, which can be applied directly in practical life.

The importance of the subject must be assessed individually by each student, either along their academic path, or fundamentally in their future practical life. But it is still significant that in the surveys carried out in the subject of Construction Materials, it emerges as one of the two subjects considered as most useful for the professional activity of our former students.

Perhaps more important than the topics taught is the objective of fostering and stimulating the critical spirit and a certain way of evaluating the performance of the materials, which could prove to be a particularly useful instrument at a time when the development of new materials is done at an accelerated pace, making full coverage impossible in a single academic year and making it impossible to envision the type of future developments and trends. It is therefore a question of providing our students with the instruments of analysis that will allow them to deal with the materials of the next generation, regardless of their nature and sophistication.

ATTENDANCE RULES

Mandatory presence in practical classes, with a tolerance of 5 minutes after the start of each class, after which the student will be absent
The frequency is obtained through the presence in practical classes (number of absences

EVALUATION RULES

2 tests (9.5 val. Each) and an individual laboratory record (1 val.)

Final grades higher than 16 imply an oral exam. Failure to attend the oral exam determines that the final grade is 16.
