Biotechnology
Education objectives
The MSc in Biotechnology provides fundamental knowledge on the topics most relevant in this multidisciplinary area, as well as an overview of the applications of biotechnology and strategies of translating the results of the laboratory to commercial product.
Students are welcomed into an environment of high scientific qualification in two research centers with international recognition: REQUIMTE, Center of Excellence in Green Chemistry - Cleaner Technologies and Processes, and Microbiological Resources Centre.
The IBET, The largest platform of Portuguese university / industry collaboration in biotechnology, and Institute of Chemical and Biological TechnologyAre associate partners to the Masters in Biotechnology. This environment is crucial in the training received and provides the practical recognition of the direct impact of scientific production in developing products of biotechnology.
Career Opportunities
Students trained in the Masters in Biotechnology will be able to meet the challenges posed by a large sector development at the international level and international level, and closely tied to the explosive expansion of knowledge in molecular biology, providing a link between the industrial and commercial activities and Science produced in laboratories.

Evaluation rules
The following modes of evaluation are used with regard to academic qualifications:
- Evaluation based solely on an examination or completion of a final project.
- Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester excluding examination or final project. In these courses students can expect to carry out, for example, laboratory activities, mini-tests, tests, individual or group projects, seminar-related activities, any combination of which will be used to determine the final grade.
- Evaluation based obligatorily on an examination or a final project. In these courses there extists a form of evaluation similar to one of the aformentioned activities in paragraph 2 as well as a form of evaluation based on a final exam.
- Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester with the possibility of foregoing an examination or a final project.
The final Dissertation (or Project) involves a public discussion with a Jury.
