Teaching method
The course will develop in two forms: - a theoretical (two-hour weekly) where underlie and discuss different topics proposed in the program; - a practical component where the student learn to identify and solve real problems within UC objectives and also dimension/project unit operations and processes which are on the basis of conventional treatment systems.
Evaluation method
The evaluation is performed by 3 Mini-tests with duration of 50 min (the first two tests) and the second one of 150 min. , to be held outside of class time. The first two mini tests count 30% (each) and have no query for the final classification and the last one 30 %, with query.
The curriculum unit to be completed provides the need of the student be present in at least two-thirds of practical classes, and two-thirds of TPC. Condition required to obtain frequency. The TPC contribute 10% to the final classification.
The final classification results from the weighted average of the mini-tests and TPC
Subject matter
General slight knowledge on systems of water supply: captation, pumping, storage and distribution. Mains of quality for supplying water and conventional and alternative conception of the treatment systems and procedural projects. Beddings and predesign of the unit operations of chemical oxidation, coagulation-flocculation, sedimentation, granular filtration, separation with membranes and disinfection. Examples of treatment systems. Study of cases and visit of study to a water treatment plant (WTP).
