Geographic Information Systems Applications
The goal of this course is to provide students with a practical introduction to principles, methods, and techniques of geographical information systems (GIS). The practical component of the course is based in ESRI ArcGIS software although the use of other tools is also encouraged. Students are expected to learn how to acquire the data, model, analyze and develop a GIS application that fits the objectives of their final master project/thesis. Ideally the final project work will be submitted to a conference or an academic journal.

Theoretical - practical classes with presentations and hands-on software.
Final grade is calculated as follows:
1. Tutorial exercises (1.25% each, up to 10%).
2. GIS Exercise (10%).
3. Project plan (5%).
4. GIS application project presentation (5%).
5. GIS application project report (40%).
6. Test during class (25%)
7. Up to 2 Virtual Campus courses (5%).
If you fail the continuous evaluation you will need to do:
1. Exam (date to be confirmed, 50%);
2. Final project (it is not possible to improve the grade of the project, 50%).
