Economia Aplicada

Objectives

This course aims at identifying, measuring and understanding the recent macroeconomic developments. It follows a methodology based on the usage of the available statistical information, contributing for the main indicators critical analysis and for the discussion on the relevant themes in the recent economic debate.

In particular, there are six learning outcomes:

LO5. Public sector

Teaching method

The curricular unit is based primarily on theoretical and practical lessons. The theoretical-practical sessions include presentation of concepts and methodologies, analysis of practical cases, discussion and interpretation of results.

A set of group exercises to be completed in extra-classroom context are also proposed.

The learning outcomes (LO) are addressed in the following learning units (LU):

- LO1 is addressed in LU1 and LU2;

- LO2 is addressed in LU3;

- LO3 is addressed in LU4;

- LO4 is addressed in LU5;

- LO5 is addressed in LU6;

- LO6 is addressed in LU7.

Evaluation method

Evaluation:

1st round: group project (50%) + final exam (50%).

2nd round: group project (50%) + final exam (50%).

Assessment elements based on group projects are supervised by the professors and subject to the elaboration of a report to be presented during classes. This element stimulates students¿ interest and is relevant in the process of understanding the economy¿s functioning. Group projects, as well as exams, will cover all LO.
