1. Understand subjects related with Occupational and Environmental Health as a global public health matter;

2. Characterize the influences of environmental and occupational risk factors on human health and the interrelationships between environmental and genetic inheritance;

3. Plan and evaluate actions, activities and programs for the prevention of environmental and occupational risks in the context of Public Health policies;

4. Participate in the characterization of the influence exerted by environmental and occupational hazards on health and understanding its pathophysiology;

5. Participate in technological innovation processes intervening in the development of a healthier and safer environment;

6. Know and understand the prevention technologies of occupational and environmental hazards on health of populations and individuals.

Evaluation method

- Theoretical component (6 ECTS): tutorial learning and individual student works.

- Component on the preparation of the doctoral thesis protocol (6ECTS): Presentation of the protocol before a jury composed of the Seminar Coordinator, the tutor and a member of the scientific committee of the doctoral program. To be admitted to the thesis phase the student must have in this component a minimum grade of 14.

Subject matter

1. The Environmental and Occupational Health in the context of Public Health; International Reference Documents; Environmental and Occupational Health in public policies; Indicators of Environmental and Occupational Health;

2. Risk Factors for Health arising from environmental matrices: water, air and soil - chemical factors, physical and microbiological agents;

3. Risk assessment and management of occupational diseases: a job analysis; diagnosis of risk situations, selecting the most appropriate indicators and planning, control and prevention programs. The concepts of "health surveillance" and "environmental monitoring" inserted in occupational hazards prevention programs;

4. Concepts of (in)acceptability of risk. The concept of ALARP. The concepts of individual and surveillance of exposed persons, including health and environmental monitoring;

5. Weaknesses of study methodologies. New occupational diseases related to the environment: increased problems for its prevention.
