Prevention and Control of Non Communicable Diseases
Objectives
1. Identify the main non-communicable diseases (NCD) in Portugal and respective determinants. Indicator analysis. Burden of disease. International comparisons.
2. Discuss and propose strategies, policies and programs for the prevention and control of NCD and their determinant factors in light of evidence criteria and health promotion principles.
3. Review and discuss the WHO Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of NCDs 2013-2020 and the National Programmes for control of NCD in the light of evidence criteria, cost-effectiveness and equity.

3. Discussion of priority health programs in Portugal and Europe in light of evidenve criteria.
4. Prepare concept notes for proposing a program or project to address health problems in Portugal or in a developing country.
5. a) Participation in class and seminars (25%), b) Group work (25%) and c) Individual work (50%): essay or critical review on a topic to be agreed between the teacher and student.
