To be able to discuss, critically, the scientific literature in the specific area of health sciences where the student intends to do his thesis work.

To design, write and present an original and innovative research project to answer a hypothesis or scientific problem in the specific area of the health sciences where the student intends to do his thesis work, including a detailed experimental approach, calendar and milestones to the project.

Knowing how to evaluate, discuss and constructively criticize other thesis projects presented by his colleagues, acting as a peer-reviewer.

Teaching language





The bibliography will be mainly primary and secondary and used by each student in an individualized way. However, students may be advised by teachers to approach literature in cases where there is a need to do so.

Teaching method

The achievement of the objectives of the Unit Curricular is made through consecutive sessions of presentation and discussion of the thesis project being developed by each student. On the part of the teachers involved, it is intended to use Problem-based Learning techniques intervening only after the students have done their work and their criticisms. This Course Unit is based, however, on the individual work of each student.

Evaluation method

The evaluation will be based on the final thesis project that will be evaluated quantitatively by at least 2 Teachers.

Subject matter

The program is based on the individual work of students and aims to ensure that students have the necessary supervision to the elaboration of an original, innovative, feasible, ethical and relevant doctoral thesis project.

It is up to the student to formulate a work plan that, starting from the current state of knowledge, allows him t o answer a well-defined scientific question. The student should select the methods and techniques more appropriate to the proposed approach and as to be able to anticipate the main results and their impact.

The student arrives at a final proposal through an iterative method of peer-review. Th is includes the supervisor (if already selected) and the group of teachers and students of this Unit Curricular. Thus, the Unit Curricular develops in regular sessions of presentation and discussion of the proposals in which everyone participates, sometimes as presenters or as peer-reviewers. At the end of the Unit Curricular, the student will be prepared to submit a doctorate intent
