Master in Translation
1) To acquire indepth theoretical, methodological and technical knowledge of stateof-the-art academic research in Translation Studies and in the practical aspects of translation.
2) To acquire the theoretical, methodological and technical skills required to devise and carry out innovative research projects in the specific areas of literary, pragmatic, scientific and technical translation.
3) To acquire the information technology skills required for the applications employed in translation projects.
4) To acquire the ability to employ the knowledge and skills referred to in items 1 to 3, in the identification of relevant topics and the solution of complex issues for the design and execution of research, implementation or training projects in the area of translation, and to develop theoretical, methodological and technological executive solutions which are practical and academically wellfounded.

Length: 3 semesters.
Total credits: 93 credits (60in course units of the study programme + 33 in the non-taught component).
Types of non-taught component: Dissertation, Project Work, Practical Work Experience with Report.
The degree of «mestre» corresponds to the level 7 of the NQF and EQF-National Qualifications Framework/European Qualifications Framework.
a) To acquire in-depth theoretical, methodological and technical knowledge concerning the state of the art of academic research in translation studies and translation practices;
b) To acquire, based on the knowledge referred to in point a), theoretical, methodological and technical competencies to design and carry out research projects and new approaches in specific areas of translation (literary, technical, scientific, pragmatic);
c) To acquire competencies in information and communication technologies which will provide students with knowledge of existing technological applications used in projects in the area of translation;
d) To acquire the ability to integrate the knowledge and competencies referred to in points a) to c) above to identify complex questions which need to be resolved or relevant subjects for the design and carrying out of research work, applied projects, or professional training in the area of translation, and to develop technical and methodological solutions and relevant techniques/technologies suitably demarcated so as to be operationalised;
e) To develop the ability to communicate in a clear, rigorous and accessible manner the aims, methods and results of research, projects and/or professional activities carried out.
Conditions of admittance
Application and access conditions to the cycle of studies reflect the conditions established in the national legislation, namely: - to hold a licenciado degree or legal equivalent; - to hold a foreign academic degree recognized by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCSH; -to hold an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae recognized by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCSH. Applicants will be selected and ranked according to the criteria annually defined in the application edict.
A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the post-graduate diploma. The final grade of the post-graduate diploma is the average, by credit, of the grades obtained in the course units in which the student obtained the 60 credits from the taught part of the Masters course. A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the Masters degree. The final grade of the Masters degree will be the average of the final grade of the taught part of the course, weighted to 40%, and the grade awarded to the dissertation, project work or practical work experience report, weighted to 60%.
