Archaeological Heritage: Management and Protection

Objectives

1) To identify the principal national and international laws of Cultural, Architectural and Archaeological
Heritage.
2) To recognize the evolution and the historic context of Cultural Heritage management in Portugal.
3) To know the archaeology organization in Europe and Portugal.
4) To analyze the different safeguard, conservation and valorization´s process of monuments and
archaeological sites.
5) To identify the principals questions of technique management, administrative organization and financial
system of Portuguese Archaeology.
6) To prepare students in research methodology directed to case studies.

Teaching method

Lectures illustrated. Critical discussion of the agenda items of the course, it goes with active participation in
class. Exercise critical comments. Study visit to a site and an archaeological park. Activities aimed at teaching
- assistance to conferences. Presentation and discussion of research papers related to case studies, preceded by the delivery of the plan prior to presentation and discussion in class. Students must submit of the report of the study visit.
