Thesis Project - Languages Teaching

Objectives

a) To produce an essay problematising the state of the question regarding the Thesis Project topic, within the
specialisation area defined by the student and supported by a scientific critical review of relevant and updated
bibliography;
b) To sustain the proposal in a), of an original thesis research plan specifying the research problems, its initial
theorical conceptualization, its relevance to the advance of theoretical and/or empirical knowledge reviewed in
a), to present the planned methodology for the study and a work development timeline;
c) To write the Thesis Project according to the scientific area’s academic norms;
d) To prepare the public discussion of the Thesis Project.

Teaching method

Teaching methodologies assume essentially the nature of tutoring, supervision and organisation and
management of analysis and reflection.
Students will be guided by a professor of the study cycle who will be responsible for accompanying the Thesis
Project. There will be regular meetings between the student and the dissertation supervisor until the final work
is handed over; participation in scientific events; good use of on-line databases and libraries; definition of a
working timetable and a research plan; definition of deadlines.

Subject matter

Each PhD student will develop his/her individual work plan negotiated with the supervisor.
The PhD student will carry on advanced research on his/her subject matter, therefore the syllabus will depend
on the researched topics and the specific analytical perspectives and bibliography will be given within the
individual tutorial sessions.
