Objectives
Learning how to acquire a good performance in:
-understanding German level of language used in the original
- identifying and reflecting upon every difficult question raised in the original in order to get the best non immediate solution
- solving translation selected by gradual management of translating competences
-acquiring the best ability to build a self assess of the Portuguese version.

Teaching method
Practical translation lessons of paradigmatic texts selected according to the linguistic, literary, historical-political student’s knowledge level aiming gradually to overcome future lexical, morphological, syntactical and cultural handicaps.
Lectures sessions on gender’s/ author’s literary text to be translated aiming literariness comprehension; translation’s proficiency; translator versus literary author.
Evaluation method
qualified accomplishment of individual assignments and participation in class(10%), three open-book (dictionaries) tests(90%)
Subject matter
Literary translation of German paradigmatic texts of every literary gender selected from 18th. to 20 th. century literary authors. Systematic research of the adequate German social and cultural context.
Systematic research of Portuguese equivalent fields and authors according to literary movement and subject.
Developing hearing and reading skills in German in order to get better acquaintance with the author’s point of view.
«Blind» training: reading and hearing German and Portuguese texts in order to develop the ability to identify the «spirit», the gender, the epoch and context of the chosen text.
