Consumption, Culture and Urban Quality of Life
Objectives
This course aims to: - Provide the framework for discussion and scientific research pointing to the centrality of consumption, culture and quality of life at the current stage of urban development of cities of the European type. - To train students with conceptual and methodological tools that allow the enrichment of the formation of the 2nd cycle, concerning the multidisciplinary focus on consumption, culture and quality of life in the context of urbanization processes. In pursuing these objectives, the aim is that students acquire the following competencies: - Ability to formulate a framework that enables thinking about multidisciplinary approaches to address the centrality of consumption, culture and quality of life at the current stage of development of cities. - Master some tools for the deployment of concepts and methodological applications, about those issues in professional contexts and / or pursue their postgraduate studies.

Teaching method
The teaching methodology is based on the combination of a component of the exhibition and discussion of theoretical and conceptual frameworks provided in the syllabus of the course, with a component of presentation and discussion of research materials and methodological tools.
Evaluation method
Gathering, processing, analyzing and presentation in classroom context, of original visual material, by students(30%), rafting of a text written in paper format, systematizing, in an articulated and coherent way, contents from the three modules of the course(70%)
Subject matter
The program of the course is structured in three modules and content that follow: 1. Urban change and patterns of consumption: - Consumption as a structural axis of the economies and urban life - Urban growth, spaces, stages and patterns of consumption - Qualitative methodologies of consumption analysis 2. Culture, consumption and urban development: - City, culture, creativity: conceptual and methodological issues - Cultural activities and territory - Culture, creative dynamics and urban space - Cultural activities and urban revitalization; - Forms of governance: cultural policies, territorial development and urban creativity. 3. Quality of life and urban development: - Background to the emergence of the issues of quality of life and quality of urban life: a reflection on the subject of urban development; - The various approaches to quality of life; - Methodologies for diagnosis and assessment of quality of life.
