History of the Theatre

Objectives

«History of the Theatre» aims at a scientific deepening of the texts and writing practices of the dramatic authors in
study. It proposes to enrich the students’ basic formation, in order to better understand the legacies and discontinuities
that constitute this literary tradition, its relevance and timeliness. Reading will be encouraged, complemented with the
discussion of the various perspectives offered by the supporting bibliography. The methodology will be that of Literary and Theatrical Studies. The student will achieve:
a) An overall view of the manifestations of classical and Portuguese ancient theatre;
b) Know how to recognize the specificity and characteristics of the dramatic text;
c) Identify the complexity of the scenic space and problems inherent to a theatrical performance;

A background paper / Oriented Monograph (9,000 characters / 6 pages) on topic to be proposed(50%), Oral presentation of background work with PPT and lectures(20%), a) A critical review / commentary (up to 4,500 char./3 pages) to one of the theoretical texts of the bibliography (15%) b) Two reviews of theatrical performances (up to 3,000 car./2 pages) to be agreed with the teacher (15%)(30%)
