Civil Engineering (Structures and Geotechnics)

Education objectives

The Master in Civil Engineering - Structures and Geotechnics provides a scientific and applied background of the best quality in the field of Geotechnical and Structures, covering the topics of recent developments in safety and innovative tecnhiques

The students, in close liaison with teachers, also benefit from interaction with research projects that provide the introduction of new structural materials and geotechnical solutions for "smart structures", active mitigation of effects of severe environmental actions,  from studyinfrastructure for TGV and seismic applications in the areas of dynamics and repair of structures.

It attaches importance to the professional aspects covered by the new European regulations, the ability to work as a team, the stimulus for continuing education and respect for ethics and professional standards.

It is expected, moreover, a dynamic management of the course that will set forth the changes in the labor market to justify expansion or change the curriculum.

Careers

The opportunities for integration in construction companies, firms in civil engineering projects and geotechnical engineering, participation in planning studies and environmental impact of large engineering works depend on the type of training given to students who complete this Masters.

Studies of seismic risk, design of bridges and dams, containment of soil, tunnels, embankments, port infrastructure are additional examples of projects and works lacking the training provided to graduates at this Masters.

Evaluation rules

The following modes of evaluation are used with regard to academic qualifications:

  1. Evaluation based solely on an examination or completion of a final project.
  2. Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester excluding examination or final project. In these courses students can expect to carry out, for example, laboratory activities, mini-tests, tests, individual or group projects, seminar-related activities, any combination of which will be used to determine the final grade.
  3. Evaluation based obligatorily on an examination or a final project. In these courses there extists a form of evaluation similar to one of the aformentioned activities in paragraph 2 as well as a form of evaluation based on a final exam.
  4. Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester with the possibility of foregoing an examination or a final project.

The final Dissertation (or Project) involves a public discussion with a Jury.
