Objectives

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) program aims at promoting the participation of students, since early in their academic career, in research projects developed by academic staff of the faculty. Through UROPs, the student will have contact with scientific research environment and gain knowledge of how research projects work. The student will develop skills in presenting and explaining research results, and transferable skills of working in teams, oral and written communication, and independent learning. Depending on the specific project chosen by the student, he/she will acquire specific knowledge on the subject area and, possibly, also some specific technical skills in the project area.

Teaching method

The coordination of the CU, with collaboration of LEG Coordinator, keeps a list of UROP offers for the participation of students in scientific research projects. Each entry in this list must present the project in which the student will be framed, a work plan summary and the scientific advisor. The student chooses to participate in one of the listed projects. The student fulfills the work plan during the semester with supervision, focusing on the interim period of the year (January-February).

Evaluation method

Evaluation is accomplished by assessing the performance of the student by the scientific supervisor, a report delivered in which the student describes the activities and an oral presentation of this report.

The concrete syllabus depends on the specific project chosen by the student in the program.
