Reliability and Maintenance Management


  1. To know the fundamental statistical concepts related to data life time in order to identify the most appropriate analytical methods to study and evaluate the Reliability of Repairable Systems and Components.
  2. To know the advantages and limitations of the methods in order to establish the most appropriate assumptions for the formulation of statistical models using.
  3. To acquire fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge to perform tasks in the field of organization and Maintenance Management.
  4. To identify and assess costs of maintenance and non-maintenance; identify problems and solve production losses.
  5. To work in the Maintenance Management field based on statistical models to support decision-making, planning maintenance actions focusing on systems reliability and consequently evolve into a philosophy of Total Productive Maintenance.

Teaching method

The teaching method combines the expository approach, particularly in the theoretical classes, with approaches focused in simulated practice in the application of concepts. The practical work of the course looking for students to test and demonstrate the acquisition of technical knowledge and also the acquisition of interpersonal relationship skills for teamwork.

Evaluation method

  • The approval and the final grade in the discipline is made in consideration of the  results of two tests to be carried out throughout the academic year.
  • The minimum grade of the second test is 7 points.
  • The final classification is obtained from the classifications of the two elements of evaluation, with the following weights: 1st Test - 50%; 2nd Test - 50%.

3. Reliability of Independent Component Systems (Connected Systems Series; Redundant Systems, Complex Systems)

4. Repairable Systems (Failure Analysis (Laplace test); Systems with ROCOF Constant (MTBF estimation; confidence intervals; Reliability Assurance; Sequential Test); Systems with Descending ROCOF (Crow Model).
