Molecular Bases of Disease

Objectives

To acquire knowledge and skills about the biochemical mechanisms underlying human disease.

-       To understand metabolic processes and associated pathologies.

-       To be able to relate biochemical mechanisms with associated pathologies

-       To acquire knowledge and skills on a seminar context and to be able to develop critical analysis, using the scientific literature.

-      To be able to search and critically interpret the literature.

Teaching method

The course includes theoretical, and theoretical-practical classes. The lectures will be taught using the "data show", accompanied by complementary bibliography previously available on the website of discipline.

The theoretical-practical classes include seminars focused on specialized subjects, given by invited speakers followed by discussions with active student participation. It also includes as clinical case with questions and discussions in class.

Evaluation method

The final test on theoretical class themes - (minimum 10 values) - 70%

Case resolution -5%

Quizzes- 10% (0-20)

Seminars (seminar summary)- 15%

Classification attributed to seminars: I (0), S (10), B(15), B+ (18), MB (20)

The final grade results from the weighting of the grade of all seminars.

Delays of more than 20 minutes after the start of the seminar class will be counted as an absence.

Absences at seminars imply a zero mark.

More than 3 absences to seminars - the practical part is considered to be not done.

The final mark (seminars+ case or theoretical part) is kept for 2 years.
