Objectives
The goal of this subject is to explore the mediation procedure and the techniques used by mediators. It follows a hands-on approach, aiming at preparing the students for real mediations through roleplaying.

Teaching method
Theoretical classes will be combined with hands-on exercises.
Roleplays will take place in about half of the classes.
Evaluation method
Continuous evaluation:
- Participation in classes and roleplays (50%)
- Paper (about 10 pages) about a topic relating to mediation (50%); or
- Video with a mediation roleplay (50%)
Subject matter
Parts 2 and 5 of the syllabus explore the stages of the mediation procedure and parts 3 and 4 the main techniques employed by mediators and negotiators.
The acquired knowledge will be put to the test through weekly mediation roleplays.
Parts 6 and 7 aim at broadening the students' perspective, showing them that there is diversity in the practice of mediation, depending on the type of dispute and on the chosen mediation style.
