Objectives

- Understand the relationship of the microbiome with health and disease;

Teaching method

The lectures are taught by teachers of curricular unit, depending on the respective specializations. The form of lecture, in which they will address issues considered essential by providing data to guide students to individual study.

Evaluation method

Student assessment – Final written examination with a multiple choice test of 20 questions (duration 30 minutes) 50%.

Oral presentation and discussion of topics by groups of two students. Topics are distributed at the beginning of the course and the presentation of each theme has a duration of 20 minutes 50%.

- The intestinal microbiota and its contribution to physiological balance. Main genera and species constituting the intestinal microbiota;

- Notions of dysbiosis and risk of noncommunicable disease (obesity and inflammatory bowel disease) and transmissible (infectious disease);

- Probiotics and Prebiotics;

- The microbiome and its relationship with rheumatologic disease;

- The role of skin microbiome in diabetes;

- The role of microbiome in skin infections;

- The microbiome and genitourinary infections;

- The microbiome and the transplant patient;

- The respiratory microbiome;

- Fecal transplantation;

- Real time PCR analysis;

- Metagenomic Analysis;

- Preparation of presentations: clarifying doubts;

- Presentations;

- Written Exam.
