Territorial Planning and Management Seminar
Objectives
a) To aware the student to the problematic of spatial and territorial planning at the different scales (global, continental, national, regional and local levels);
b) To develop the critical and reflexive capacities of the student upon main present territorial problematic, as well as to increase its skills of analysis and understanding of plans and other land use planning instruments and mechanisms;
c) To deepen the student capacities in terms of proposal and elaboration of land use planning and land management solutions (after diagnosis and analysis), searching for the adequate relationship between theoretical concepts and its practical application, in real contexts (including political, institutional and legal aspects);
d) To address the components and mechanisms of territorial governance, in terms of participation and involvement of actors in territorial planning and management.

Teaching method
Given the joint theoretical and empirical nature of this curricular unit, from a methodological point of view it is privileged the development of a planning proposal (in the municipal level) in accordance with the objectives of discipline.
The theoretical lectures are taught in the form of seminar, providing the necessary content for practical classes.
The empirical/practical classes are based on the promotion and discussion with the students of necessary thematic related to the practical work, analysis of several territorial and development plans, and overall monitoring and guidance of practical work.
The practical work is to be prepared in groups, each student being responsible for a specific component. Special attention is paid to effective integration of the various components of the work, assessing the responsibility of the different elements.

Evaluation method
Evaluation Method - Presentation of practical and thematic works in a ´Pros and Cons´ method (mix of individual and group component,(25%), Reading and critical analysis of texts by written recension and debate in class (individual component(25%), final work (up to 75 000 characters with public presentation) on a specific territory (50%)

1) The contemporary territories and the mutations of scales, dynamics and typologies;
2) Analysis and reflections upon main present problematic on the fields of spatial planning and spatial management;
3) The positioning of territorial strategic planning: visionary, operational, relational and collaborative;
4) Systematization and analysis of territorial management tools, at different scales;
5) Main politic-institutional, legal and socioeconomic aspects;
6) The concept, the strategy and the proposal in the context of planning development;
7) Territorial management in context of deepened governance dynamics;
8) Development, presentation and discussion of seminar projects.
