Internship in Urban Studies

Objectives

The Internship in Urban Studies, as an alternative to Dissertation or Project Work elaboration as a means to conclude the Master, has the following purposes: - Enable students to contact directly with professional practices and intervention methods connected to the competences developed along the course; - To develop capacities towards handling adequate theoretical and methodological instruments for the practice of professional practices related to urban problems; - To develop competences to produce an intervention project from the diagnosis of an issue, problematic crux or situation worthy of intervention; - To develop autonomous and scientifically informed decision-making and solution offer competences.

Teaching method

The teaching methodology consists of the promotion of articulation between acquired theoretical and methodological competences and the training applied in actual professional context. Of this articulation will result a Traineeship Report which informs, in a critically and scientifically informed manner, about the work developed, bearing in mind the topics presented in the syllabus.

Evaluation method

Evaluation method - It is the supervisor´s role to accompany the evolution of the traineeship, making sure of the proposed objectives and traineeship plan attainment, as well as to assess the Traineeship Report, which will include the student´s path evaluation in what concerns the competences expressed in point 3.3.4.(100%)

Subject matter

In articulation with the traineeship supervisor, each student must develop the following topics: - To identify and select a problematic situation worthy of intervention in the chosen professional context. - To formulate the traineeship object in a complex and analytically problematical mode. - To select and analyse the relevant bibliography. - To define the adequate work methodologies. - To design the traineeship plan and adapt the traineeship work to this plan. - To produce a traineeship report.
