Postgraduate Course in Music in Early Childhood: Intervention and Research
To acquire knowledge and skills within the scope of Edwin Gordon’s musical learning theory focusing on the age group from zero to five years old;
To develop research skills with the age group from zero to five years-old – in the associated social and educational contexts - creating transdisciplinary perspectives to Music Psychology, Music Pedagogy, Music Therapy, Artistic Studies in Childhood and other knowledge branches;
To develop expressive, playful and artistic skills that allow quality performances in the field of art for children;
To explore formulas of human interaction that use musical resources in contact with children from zero to five years old, and their families, in different contexts;
To identify relevant sources of information and methodologies for carrying out research work within the scope of the study of musical development;
To acquire skills of observation and description of behaviors, providing the bases for the design of research at the PhD level;
To develop leadership skills and cooperative work, preparing for networking with professionals who share the purpose of better caring for children.

Total credits: 60 ECTS based in the compulsory curricular units.
(1 ECTS - European Credit Transfer System = a 28-hour workload).
Conditions of admittance
Application and access conditions to the cycle of studies reflect the conditions established in the national legislation, namely: - To hold a degree (1st cycle), or legal equivalent; - To hold a foreign academic degree recognized by the Scientific Council (SC) of NOVA FCSH; - To hold an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae, recognized by the Scientific Council (SC) of NOVA FCSH. Applicants will be selected and ranked according to the criteria annually defined in the application edict.
The current evaluation regulation at the host institution is adopted. Each course unit describes evaluation methods in detail. 1) Mandatory precedence is not required for attending postgraduate courses. 2) The knowledge assessment is individual and will take place at the end of the academic semesters. In the assessment of knowledge, final written and / or oral tests, works or other elements of assessment carried out by students within the different curricular units will be considered under conditions to be defined by the respective teachers. The evaluation result will be expressed in a numerical scale from 0 to 20 values. 3) A student who obtains a final classification equal to or higher than 10 values is approved in a curricular unit.
