Molecular immunology

Objectives

At the end of this course unit the student will have acquired knowledge, skills and competences that allow him / her to:

Acquire basic knowledge about the mechanisms of the immune response, in the different steps of the immune response.

• Learning the molecular basis and mechanisms of antigen recognition and leukocyte activation

• Identify the role of immune dysfunction in autoimmune diseases and immunodeficiencies.

•Develop skills on the applicability of methodologies / technologies used in the study of Immunology in different areas, such as, basic research, diagnosis and new therapies.

• Apply knowledge in the presentation of the mechanisms of action of immunotherapies

Teaching method

The teaching comprehends theoretical and theoretical- practical lectures. The theoretical lectures use “data show”, on topics of immunology, complemented with theoretical-practical sessions, including work group of scientific articles and themes. For each class there will exist questions of rapid response, to be discussed in group.

The student will be evaluated according to: 1) a written examination (50% weighting) which will include the themes explored in all classes, 2) presentation of themes (35% weighting); and 3) participation and attitude in class, and discussions of scientific articles (weighting 15%).

Every student enrolled must attend at least 75% of the classes.

The evaluation obtained by attendance of lectures and presentations is valid for two years.

Evaluation method

Assessment methods

The student will be evaluated according to the weighted average of: 1) a written examination (50% weighting) which will include the themes explored in all classes, 2) presentation of themes (35% weighting); and 3) participation and attitude in class, includes discussions of scientific articles provided by responsible of the course (weighting 15%).

Every student enrolled must attend at least 75% of the classes.

In case of repeated discipline, the evaluation obtained by attendance of lectures and presentations is valid for two years.
