Semiconductor Materials

Objectives

The objective is to supply basic concepts of semiconductor materials and devices based on those materials to Physics, Physics Engineering, Materials Engineering and Electronic Engineering students. By doing so we aim to give science and engineering concepts necessary to the understanding of the electronic functionalities presented by the different categories of materials used to design and to fabricate electronic and optoelectronic devices. These devices normally work under control conditions of electron flow in an active semiconductor, either of crystalline or amorphous structure, but whose final performances are dependent on structure order, defects and composition.

Teaching method

In the theoretical lectures are analyzed the concepts needed to understand the physical principles of operation of semiconductor materials and devices made with these semiconductors. The theoretical concepts are then applied in practice by solving problems and also in laboratories that consists in the the determination of the electronic parameters of the main devices studied (pn juntion, pnp transistor, MOSFET transistor)

The teoretical classes are given with power point and blackboard for explaining some important aspects
