Bachelor in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Education objectives

The Undergraduate Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering provides solid and comprehensive training in key areas of support for 21st century society, which include Electronics, Computer Engineering and Information Technologies, Telecommunications, Robotics and Energy and Systems.

The degree is the starting point for vocational training or for a 2nd cycle (master''s degree) in a wide range of areas of specialization.

NOVA''s electrical and computer engineers combine skills in the fundamental scientific knowledge with additional technological skills, which allows them to adapt to the rapid evolution of processes and new market demands. These competences provide a continuous adaptation of professionals to the challenges posed by technological innovation, which is why it guarantees a successful career.

Career opportunities

The curriculum of the Undergraduate Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering was designed to provide access to a wide range of career opportunities. The following are pointed out as examples:

  • Automation and mobile robotics companies: design and installation of factory production lines (for example automobiles); development of software for product quality control; programming of logic controllers; programming robots in 3D environment.

  • Energy sector companies: application of new technologies in the distribution of energy (smart-grid); use of renewable energies; electric vehicles.

  • Telecommunications companies: operators; service providers to operators; manufacturers of telecommunications and computing equipment; start-ups providing new services / applications.

  • Service companies: consulting; programming; banking / finance.

Evaluation rules

The evaluation of all UCs is continuous for all the components that integrate it, and it must be completed by the last day of the school term of the academic semester.

The continuous evaluation of a UC must include a minimum of three elements in the set of evaluation components, on dates adequately spaced throughout the period of classes.

All UCs with a theoretical-practical evaluation component must provide, in addition, a form of evaluation of this component by exam, to be carried out after the period of classes (Examination of Appeal).

All requirements and conditions related to the evaluation of the UC, namely the minimum weights and classifications, if any, of each component, as well as the Frequency conditions, are defined a priori and, mandatorily, published in the Discipline Form.

For each UC, combinations of three evaluation components are allowed: (i) Theoretical-practical evaluation; (ii) Laboratory or project evaluation; (iii) Summative assessment.
