The main purpose of Quality Management is to provide to students the ability to:
-Easily work in organizations that adopted the Total Quality Management approach;
-Develop, implement, analyse and continuously improve quality management systems;
-Solve problems by using both the basic and the planning quality tools;
-Apply some other quality tools that are quite useful for developing new products and processes and for continuous improvement of existing products.
-Get acquainted with other management systems (environmental management system, occupational health and safety management system, social accountability) and relate them to quality management systems.
Simultaneously, through the teaching and learning practices, the students will develop their skills in problem solving, team working, critical thinking and communication.

Teaching strategy is based on a combination of expositive approaches, namely as regards theoretical classes, with approaches oriented towards the application of concepts. Since several approaches are built upon teamwork, this work methodology is largely applied in the practical classes. The course’s project is aimed to further develop their ability to perform teamwork as well as for improving student’s technical and communication skills.
The curricular unit comprises two assessment elements: an individual test, with a weighting of 65% in the final classification, and a group work, with a weighting of 35%.
To pass the course, the student must have a rating equal to or greater than 9.5 on the individual test.
