History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Tecnology

Education objectives

The objectives of the PhD Programme in History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Technology are:

  1. To foster a culture of science and technology, that aims to understand the historical importance and influence of science and technology in European society;

  2. To understand and contextualize the development of  technological innovation in Portuguese society;

  3. To identify and contextualize the history of scientific and technological Portuguese heritage;

  4. To evaluate and disseminate knowledge that will ensure the conservation, of the scientific and technological heritage.

Students will join the Interuniversitary Centre for History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (CIUHCT), a recognized research unit at the national and international levels.

  • Qualification of primary and secondary teachers

  • Qualification of top-level executives of local authorities, through the development of skills for the measurement of scientific technological and industrial heritage sites and its conservation possibilities.
