Teaching method

Lectures sessions with datashow. Experimental laboratory sessions and solving problems sets. The learning methodologies include an oral theme presentation in theoretical sessions. The laboratorial sessions are dedicated to the execution of the analytical methodologies to produce liquid biofuels and the theoretical-practical sessions are dedicated case studies analysis and solving exercises/problems, in order to consolidate the acquired knowledge and the individual and group´s presentation and reasoning by the students’ proactive participation.

Evaluation method

Continuous evaluation

40% of the grade: questionnaires and work to be carried out on the various topics covered in class.
60% of the grade: 2 theoretical assessment tests to be carried out in the middle and at the end of the semester.

Exams

Time of Appeal - on a date to be determined, in the corresponding period.

Students who did not obtain a grade of 10 or higher in the Continuous Assessment are automatically admitted to the Appeal Exam

Students with a rating equal to or greater than 10 in the Continuous Assessment may be admitted to the Appeal Examination for Grade Improvement upon registration for these purposes and payment of the required fee.

Subject matter

1. The importance of biofuels in the European and world economy and relevant legislation. 2. Production of biofuels by chemical, biochemical, thermochemical and electrochemical processes. 3. Production of biofuels from waste. 4. Industrial system for biofuel production and their technological maturity. 5. Environmental, economic and social integration of biofuel production in the promotion of renewable energy in the transport sector

Resolution of exercises on the production of biofuels from different raw materials. Practical laboratory work on the production of biodiesel and bioethanol.
