Health and Development Seminar
Objectives
1. At the end of the seminar, the participants shall be able to: 2. Identify the broad schools of thought in public health; 3. Describe the main challenges in public health in countries with fragile health systems; 4. Identify and analyze, based on evidence, the main international health policies and strategies, particularly those that apply to fragile health systems; 5. Synthesize and communicate research results in public health to broad audiences (scientific, professional, decision makers, broad public); 6. Apply research results in public health to the formulation of policies, strategies and intervention plans in fragile health systems.

Evaluation through individual works with conceptual analysis of statistical data from countries, health patterns and health system’s response.
Subject matter
I. The foundation texts of public health; II. Public health problems in countries with fragile health systems; III. The role of health systems: a) does supply respond to demand?; b) evaluating the performance of health systems; c) universal health coverage; IV. Analysis of international policies and strategies in public health, particularly those that apply to fragile health systems; V. Interventions by International agencies, foundations, non-governmental organizations, and bilateral cooperation; VI. Synthesis and communication strategies for scientific research results; VII. Applying research results to the formulation of policies, strategies and intervention plans in fragile health systems.
