Advanced Methods in Molecular Biology


After this unit, students should be able to:
1. Know the structure and function of nucleic acids.
2. Understand the basic principles of analysis of proteins and nucleic acids.
3. Understand the principles of monoclonal antibody production and identify the advantages and limitations of its use.
4. Understand the principles of PCR and RT-PCR technologies and identify their respective advantages and limitations.
5. Understand the basic principles of Sanger sequencing.
6. Understand the basic principles of different types of next generation sequencing and identify the advantages and limitations of each of them.
7. Understand the basic principles of mass spectrometry and its advantages and limitations in protein and peptide identification.

Theoretical teaching using audiovisual media and internet resources.

Evaluation method

Evaluation through a written, multiple choice, exam (50%) and assessment of performance in seminars (50%).
