Enterprise Cloud Mobility

Objectives

Cloud platforms are a natural consequence of the evolution and ubiquity of the Internet, and also from the new ways of making available services in information technologies, with a flexibility and elasticity previously unavailable to the decision makers, and enabling them to adapt their organizations to the rapid changes of the conditions and requirements of the market.

In this course, based on the professional and academic literatures, and also in case studies, students will get to know the main concepts that enable them decide on the adoption of cloud and enterprise mobility platforms.

Based in existing and available cloud and mobility platforms, the students will analise scenarios where the cloud and the enterprise mobility complement each other. In the end of the course, students should be able to define the main benefits and challenges that organizations who intend to adopt cloud platforms, public or private, define the main parameters and evaluation metrics for costs and benefits, security, privacy and service quality levels.

Teaching method

Theoretical classes, theoretical-practical, Labs and Seminars. At the theoretical classes, the main concepts and principles of cloud computing and enterprise mobility will be presented. At the theoretical-practical, students will address articles and scientific studies that ilustrate what was previously presented in the theoretical classes. At the Labs, students will address enterprise scenarios on Microsoft Azure, Office 365 and Windows Phone. At the Seminar, a professional from the area of cloud computing will present a case study on the adoption and benefits of cloud and enterprise mobility in the portuguese context.

Evaluation method

Case studies (20 + 20): 40%
Final exam: 60%
