Objectives

1. Understand the differences of projects, operations and products concepts
2. Structure project management concepts, with focus on Organizations' business
3. Use distinct project life cycle models, recognizing their advantages and disadvantages
4. Use scope planning and control processes, methods and techniques
5. Use project activities planning and control processes, methods and techniques
6. Use project organization and responsibilities planning processes, methods and techniques
7. Develop the project communication plan
8. Identify the project cost types and be capable to structure the costs (CBS) and control project's performance (EVA)
9. Apply quality, quality assurance and quality control concepts in project management context
10. Apply risk identification, risk assessment and risk treatment processes, methods and techniques
11. Understand the main aspects of project team management
12. Make an adequate use of main Microsoft Project functionalities on practical exercises

Teaching method

The curricular unit is based on lectures, complemented by practical exercises. Lectures include the presentation and discussion of project management concepts, processes, methods and techniques.
Practical exercises are focused on project plan preparation, based on a case study given to students. After delivery a formal discussion with each group is scheduled.

Evaluation method


Written exam:Minimum score of 9.5 is required
Practical exercises: Evaluation based on group work delivery, balanced with a final discussion. Minimum score of 9.5 is required

Final classification= (0,6* exam score + 0,4 practical score)

Practical score is considered both for the first and second call.

Practical work shall be performed in working groups. Each working group shall have 5 students (a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 might be accepted, after professor's approval).
