TEFL Methodology I

Objectives

-To acquire central concepts and terminology of teaching-and-learning EFL
-To identify, characterize and assess different TEFL approaches and methods
-To get familiar with national English syllabuses and the CEFRL
-To have a critical understanding of the contemporary uses of digital technology within TEFL
-To reflect on teaching-and-learning issues in pedagogical contexts, articulating declarative knowledge; skillsand know-how; existential competence and ability to learn
-To develop a reflective outlook on the foreign language learner, the different teacher roles, and classroom-interaction patterns
-To draw up proposals for productive and receptive skills development
-To increase awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity
-To reflect on, analyse and discuss processes to be developed in the classroom
-To explain evaluation and assessment principles, types and objectives
-To describe processes to manage mistakes and errors pedagogically

Teaching method

The course will combine theoretical and practical classes, including presentation, demonstration, practical exercises, group discussion and reflection on the topics studied. Classes will favour the practical implementation of theory, interaction and students’ active participation both individually and in a group.

Evaluation method

Assessment methods - Theoretical and practical assignments throughout the semester (60%), Written test in class(40%)
