Seminar in Contemporary History

Objectives

The seminar aims to develop advanced theoretical knowledge, deepen the ability to plan and develop research based on pluralities of sources and aptitude for the elaboration of complex texts, at the level of the third cycle of higher education studies. It is intended, in particular, that students develop the capacity to:  a) Know how to identify the main sources and documentary collections and conhecer the main specialized bibliography, national and international, on Contemporary History; b)  Know and know how to use historiographic concepts and analytical categories appropriate to the research work in CH; c) To know the recent problems of research and  synthesis in CH; (d) be able to apply the knowledge previouslyreferred to in the preparation of research work at doctorallevel; (e) the ability to formulate and sustain an original research theme through a well-structured argumentation; f) Ability to communicate clearly and fluently the results of the research carried out.

Teaching method

Seminar regime, combining the interventions of the person responsible for the seminar with the participation of invited researchers and the interventions of doctoral students. The students, in addition to active and assiduous participation make an oral and written presentation (10 pp.) on a topic or question related to the theme in which they intend to develop their research project. The programming and scheduling of activities is defined, presented and distributed at the beginning of the school cycle. 

Evaluation method

Evaluation Methodologies - The evaluation results from the participation in the seminars, the preparation and presentation of the oral and written (10pp) of a theme or issue related to their research project and the elaboration, presentation and discussion of critical analysis and reflection, state of the art, on the historiography available in the scope of the theme in which they intend to develop their research.(100%)

Subject matter

Presentation and debate on topics, state-of-the-art reflections in concrete domains of contemporary historiography, open problems and analysis of recently completed research projects, ongoing or in preparation in the context of contemporary, national and international historiography, combining the intervention of the person responsible for the seminar, the collaboration of specialists and the participation of doctoral students.
