Education objectives

The main objective of the programme is to supply an excellent education with solid theoretical and practical components not only for professionals with working experience that want to bring their knowledge up to date, but also for those who recently made their 1st cycle university degree or pre Bologna university degree and that want a Master Degree and look for better qualifications in order to enter more easily into the job market or in order to pursue investigation programmes. The upcoming of the new challenges related to the sustainability of the city, of the urban environment and of the spatial planning requires highly qualified professionals with a specific education that this study cycle aims to provide.

Degree pre-requisites

Length: 2 years/4 semesters. Total credits: 120 credits (78 in course units of the study programme + 42 in the non-taught component). Types of non-taught component: Dissertation, Project Work, Internship and Report.
The degree of "mestre" corresponds to the level 7 of the NQF and EQF-National Qualifications Framework/European Qualifications Framework.

Competencies:
1. Supply an excellent education about the challenges related to the sustainability of the city, of the urban environment and of the spatial planning with solid theoretical and practical components.
2. Domain of the conceptual and theoretical foundations of various disciplines.
3. Profound knowledge of tools, methods and techniques of analysis that enable to understand and intervene into the complex reality of the urban systems and the territory.
4. Practical knowledge of plans and intervention projects in the city considered exemplary and pioneering urban sustainability issues.
5. Competence to integrate, by a collaborative way, into multidisciplinary working teams and along with the technical and scientific skills, providing the development of communication and social capacities of the student besides technical and scientific abilities, and the adoption of new pro-active and enterprising attitudes.

Conditions of admittance

Application and access conditions to the cycle of studies reflect the conditions established in the national legislation, namely: - to hold a licenciado degree or legal equivalent; - to hold a foreign academic degree recognized by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCSH; -to hold an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae recognized by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCSH. Applicants will be selected and ranked according to the criteria annually defined in the application edict.

Evaluation rules

A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the post-graduate diploma. The final grade of the post-graduate diploma is the average, by credit, of the grades obtained in the course units in which the student obtained the 60 credits from the taught part of the Masters course. A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the Masters degree. The final grade of the Masters degree will be the average of the final grade of the taught part of the course, weighted to 40%, and the grade awarded to the dissertation, project work or practical work experience report, weighted to 60%.
